Around the world wellness
A blog about big picture health.
Big Picture Health is holistic: mind, body, and for those of you who are spiritual, spirit! I wanted to have a place for my clients to go to for additional support to talk therapy. I’m passionate about supporting mental health through the body with:
high quality nutrition for brain health and for the body to be strong and at ease
adequate movement and fitness appropriate for your body
sufficient time and connection with nature
I invite you to feel better in your body, setting up so many of the other details in your life for repair, growth and success. Given half a chance, your body and mind can heal because we are wired for homeostasis. We just need to learn to listen and find ways to meet our own needs alongside those of the people we care for. While we can never meet all our needs—and many people face ongoing adversity due to aspects of their identity or circumstances—I encourage you to notice the subtle, yet transformative, ways you might support yourself or lean on others for support. As Viktor Frankl said: “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.”
There are many ways to nourish your mind, body, and spirit; these philosophies and tools come from around the world, from individual leaders and cultures. They also might come to us from parents or grandparents or their parents. For all of life’s challenges, each is a door through which we can move through these moments with more ease and integrity. As a psychotherapist, integrative nutrition health coach and yoga teacher, I provide both information and personalized support to help you through a season you need guidance and accountability for change, big and small.
I believe:
…we are highly adaptable beings, but we forget, so we sell ourselves short.
…there is no arriving at perfect health. But we can improve and maintain good health by showing up more frequently and honestly.
…we can lessen the severity of struggles, both internal and external, by how we respond to them.
…the fundamental qualities you need to thrive (not just survive) are courage, trust in self and in connection to others, and self-awareness.
